The sensing and platform rungs led on an Allegro initiation and a standout Teradyne session as the power rung lagged.
Allegro MicroSystems (ALGM) led the vertical, up 8.7% to $39.53, after RBC Capital initiated coverage at Outperform with a $50 target, citing its leadership in magnetic position- and current-sensing ICs, rising data-center current-sensor demand as AI-server power climbs, and a run of robotics design wins. The move owns the sensing-touch chokepoint — the perception rung every actuator closes its control loop on. The rest of the sensing layer followed: STMicroelectronics +7.0% to $57.26, Cognex +4.4% to $64.97, and Novanta +4.0% to $149.27.
The laggard was Ultralife (ULBI), down 4.0% to $6.51, a batteries-power name giving back ground with no company catalyst; Serve Robotics (SERV) fell 2.8% and Ambarella (AMBA) eased 2.3% on the edge-AI-compute rung. The structural read: power and edge-compute remain the two quiet chokes even on a day the sensing and platform rungs ran hard.
Platforms-integrators led on a standout Teradyne session — TER +8.0% to $449.04 on a stack of catalysts: the Magnum E2 memory tester (extending into LPDDR6/DDR6/GDDR7 and advanced NAND), the Iris 100 for microLED and photonics test, a new Gen-7 Universal Robots cobot, and a multi-year GS Microelectronics test-center partnership. Tesla added 4.7% to $370.59 on the actuators/sensing rung, Lattice +4.0% to $134.00 on edge-AI, and Yaskawa's US line +4.0% as the Japanese automation names firmed. Precision gears and linear motion held — Timken +2.9% to $122.44, Regal Rexnord +2.1% to $159.87 — while the simulation-software rung lagged: PTC -1.7% to $144.03, Synopsys -0.1%.
The next catalysts cluster around humanoids and the motion-component supply chain. RoboBusiness 2026 (Santa Clara, Oct 19–21) carries a humanoid-for-industry track; NVIDIA's Isaac GR00T reference humanoid is slated to ship from Unitree late in 2026; and Q3 prints from the bearings and gears choke arrive with Hyundai (Oct 27) and Timken (Oct 30). The rare-earth-magnet overhang stays live into China's November 10 expiry of its export-control suspension — the input that gates actuator and motor supply.
