Nabtesco's reduction-gear monopoly firmed in Tokyo on humanoid demand while a microcap security-robot name led the decliners and design software lagged.

The single most important chokepoint in the humanoid supply chain led the basket Tuesday. Nabtesco's ADR (NCTKY) rose 8.3% to $15.35 in Tokyo's session — no discrete same-day catalyst, but the move sits on the strongest structural position in the group. Nabtesco holds roughly 35% of the world market for RV cycloidal precision reduction gears, the actuator that gates every articulated industrial and humanoid joint, and is doubling capacity toward two million units a year against anticipated demand from Tesla, Figure and Agility. On a day the broad tape fell on rates — the 10-year hit 5.04%, its highest since 2007, ahead of the Fed's decision this week — the money in robotics went to the irreplaceable joint supplier, with Harmonic Drive (HSYDF) +1.8% firm alongside on the strain-wave rung.

The laggard was a penny-stock artifact, not a chokepoint signal. Knightscope (KSCP) fell 8.2% to $1.23, a sub-$1.50 microcap security-robot name down roughly 77% over twelve months, continuing its slide on no fresh company news — a thin, speculative security whose daily swings carry little information about the sector. The decliners that mattered sat on hard-tech straits: Synopsys (SNPS) −3.6% and PTC (PTC) −2.9% on the design-and-simulation-software rung that every robot program runs on, and MP Materials (MP) −3.0% and Energy Fuels (UUUU) −3.9% on the rare-earth-magnet chokepoint that gates every motor.

The breadth tracked the day's two crosscurrents — a semis rebound against a rate selloff. The silicon-and-controls rung firmed: Qualcomm (QCOM) +4.2%, Symbotic (SYM) +2.8%, Teradyne (TER) +1.1%, NVIDIA (NVDA) +0.6%. The motion-and-bearings names were mixed as rates bit: RBC Bearings (RBC) +1.0% and THK (THKLY) +1.0% held, but Regal Rexnord (RRX) −0.9%, Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) −1.4% in Seoul and Novanta (NOVT) −1.3% gave ground. Tesla (TSLA) slipped 0.7% and Serve Robotics (SERV) −2.3%. The pattern favored the enabling components over the platform integrators.

The near catalysts cluster on the humanoid roadmap. ABB's robotics-division divestiture to SoftBank is expected to close by month-end, reshaping the industrial-arm landscape. NVIDIA's Isaac GR00T reference humanoid is slated to ship from Unitree late in the year, with the GR00T N2 foundation model targeted by year-end; RoboBusiness (Oct 19–21, Santa Clara) and the Humanoids Summit (Dec 1–2) bracket the demand narrative. For the magnet chokepoint, China's one-year suspension of its October 2025 rare-earth export controls expires Nov 10. The Fed's decision this week is the near-term swing factor for a group priced on long-dated adoption.
