A defensive connector maker was the only green as semis, humanoid platforms and the magnet strait sold off in a broad risk-off.
On a down tape led lower by semiconductors, the robotics basket's leader was a connector maker, not a robot: TE Connectivity (TEL) rose 1.3% to $208.00. TE sits on the sensors-and-interconnect chokepoint — the connectors, sensors and cabling that every actuator and humanoid joint routes through — and its industrial, comparatively defensive profile made it the standout on a session that punished speculative growth. It was a thin green island; almost everything else in the basket was red.
Allient (ALNT) fell 8.0% to $86.45, the basket's worst, with no fresh company news — a high-beta motion-control name (motors, drives, the electromechanical guts of automation) unwinding on the risk-off. The precision-motion and chip-content cohort followed: Synopsys (SNPS) −5.6% to $414.82 on the design-tools chokepoint, Teradyne (TER) −4.1% to $335.46, Yaskawa's ADR (YASKY) −3.9%, Symbotic (SYM) −3.7% to $38.22, and Serve Robotics (SERV) −3.7%.
The humanoid-platform names sold with the complex — Tesla (TSLA) −3.2% to $356.09, and Hyundai (005380.KS), owner of Boston Dynamics, −5.6% in Seoul trading — and the rare-earth magnet strait, robotics' hardest physical chokepoint for actuator motors, gave back: MP Materials (MP) −1.8% to $53.74, USA Rare Earth (USAR) −3.1%, Energy Fuels (UUUU) −3.6%. Semiconductor content dragged throughout: Lattice (LSCC) −3.2%, Qualcomm (QCOM) −2.3%, STMicro (STM) −1.5%, Nvidia (NVDA) −1.5%. The Japanese precision-bearing and gear names — the actuator supply chain — were uniformly soft, from FANUC (FANUY) −3.1% to Timken (TKR) −1.1%.
The autumn slate leans on humanoids and the magnet clock. ABB's robotics divestiture to SoftBank is expected to close by quarter-end; Nvidia's Isaac GR00T reference humanoid is slated to ship from Unitree late in the year; and RoboBusiness runs October 19–21 in Santa Clara. Synopsys' Investor Day on September 30 is the near read on design-tools demand. The date that governs the actuator strait, though, is November 10 — when China's one-year suspension of its October-2025 rare-earth export controls expires.
