Enovix rose 8.5% on a battery-qualification milestone and the humanoid names ran on a bullish Tesla survey, while the precision-motion choke sold off with the semicap complex.

The energy-density choke led. Enovix rose +8.5% to $3.40 after an analyst upgrade to Buy and news that it shipped its first next-generation battery samples to phone customers, with a Q2 that grew revenue 21% year-over-year across smartphones, smart eyewear and drones. For humanoids the read is direct: an actuator-dense robot lives or dies on watt-hours per kilogram, and battery energy density is the choke that sets runtime and torque budget. Enovix is the highest-beta listed pure-play on it, so a qualification milestone in phones — the volume market that funds the cell roadmap — reprices the robotics option embedded in the name.

The laggard was the precision-motion choke, dragged into the automation-and-semicap selloff. Novanta fell −7.1% to $145.94 on no company-specific news as the market repriced AI-infrastructure capital spending and derated the precision-hardware complex with it. The bottleneck names moved together: Teradyne −6.1% to $379.65, Allient −6.4% to $101.81, Nabtesco −4.7% to $14.83, RBC Bearings −4.6% to $520.54, Nidec −3.0% — the harmonic drives, precision bearings, motion controllers and test equipment that are the physical chokepoint on building humanoids at scale. Demand for these parts is structural; the equities simply trade with the capital-equipment tape.

The session split cleanly between AI-robotics narrative and motion hardware. The humanoid and autonomy names ran on a bullish JPMorgan survey of Tesla's factories pointing to robotaxi-fleet acceleration and an Optimus Gen-3 design that is finalized with its supply chain essentially locked, external sales targeted as early as H2 2027: Tesla +4.2% to $351.12, Serve Robotics +5.1% to $4.78, Symbotic +3.9% to $42.02, PTC +4.1% to $152.44. Against them the vision-and-motion silicon fell — Cognex −4.4% to $60.64, STMicroelectronics −3.6% to $50.41, Lattice −5.3% to $117.68 — the sensing-and-control layer selling with the chips even as the humanoid thesis it enables caught a bid.

The calendar is thick into month-end. Ambarella's Q2, the machine-vision read, and NVIDIA's fiscal Q2 — the Isaac/GR00T robotics-platform signal — both land August 26, with THK's Q2 on August 31 and Tesla's targeted Optimus V3 reveal and Fremont production start due around summer's end. ABB's robotics divestiture to SoftBank is expected to close in Q3, and RoboBusiness convenes in Santa Clara October 19–21. The tell is whether the humanoid narrative pulls the motion-hardware choke back up once the semicap selloff exhausts itself.
