Teradyne led on AI-test enthusiasm and the rare-earth-magnet choke ran, while Timken's margin collapse sent the precision-motion laggard sharply lower.

Teradyne led the vertical, up +10.3% to $403.56, though the discrete same-day catalyst does not really exist. The move is best read as AI-and-semiconductor-test enthusiasm on a record tape — the Nasdaq Composite rose +2.59% — layered on a run of bullish price-target hikes (Cantor and Susquehanna to a Street-high $550, BofA to $525) and a late-July Q2 beat still working through the stock. Teradyne sits at the platforms-and-integrators chokepoint from two directions: it tests the chips that go into every robot, and through Universal Robots and MiR it sells the cobots and mobile bases themselves. On a day the market bid the whole AI-hardware complex, that dual exposure made it the basket's cleanest high-beta expression.

The laggard was a genuine fundamental miss. Timken fell −6.9% to $132.03 after its Q2 report: sales and adjusted EPS both beat, but operating margin collapsed to 6.7% from 12.6% a year earlier, and that profitability crack dominated the reaction despite a raised full-year EPS guide. Timken sits at the precision-gears-and-linear-motion chokepoint — the bearings and drives that carry load in every actuator — so a margin compression there is a read on input costs and pricing power in exactly the components a humanoid needs by the hundreds. The beat did not matter; the margin line did.

The rest of the basket leaned green, led by the magnet choke. USA Rare Earth gained +8.9% to $17.28 and MP Materials +8.3% to $47.47 on the rare-earth-magnet theme that feeds every humanoid — a single humanoid carries far more NdFeB magnet content than an EV, and China still controls the bulk of refining. Lattice Semiconductor rose +8.5% to $138.00 on a clean Q2 beat (EPS $0.53 versus $0.44, revenue $201.1M against $185.5M with strong Q3 guidance), and Harmonic Drive's US line added +8.6% at the strain-wave-reducer choke in its own most recent session. Among the integrators, Symbotic rose +3.5%, Unity +5.5% and Tesla +1.6%.

The calendar is busy near-term. Cognex reports Q2 today at the machine-vision choke, and Symbotic reports fiscal Q3 on August 6 against its guided $700–720M revenue. USA Rare Earth's Q2 lands August 10 — the read on whether magnet-reshoring economics are converting — and Harmonic Drive reports its quarter this week as the direct check on precision-reducer demand. Enovix, EnerSys and Knightscope all follow the week of August 12.
