The semiconductor-test and factory-automation stack rode Thursday's AI melt-up — Teradyne led the basket while the day was so broadly green the laggard barely fell.
Teradyne led the vertical at +14.4% to $365.49, carried by the same wave that lifted the chip complex: Lam Research's blowout and Microsoft's demand-first capex reassurance re-rated the automated-test-equipment names as a group, and Teradyne is the highest-beta ATE proxy in this basket. The move reads as sector read-through rather than a Teradyne-specific print, but it sits squarely on the vertical's chokepoint — Teradyne both tests the silicon that goes into every robot and, through Universal Robots and MiR, owns a chunk of the collaborative-and-mobile-robot supply chain itself. When AI-hardware demand re-rates, the company that tests the chips and sells the cobots re-rates twice.
With the basket almost uniformly green, the "laggard" was noise: Ultralife off −2.6% to $5.16, a thin battery name, essentially tied with Qualcomm (−2.6%), the edge-AI-and-robotics compute supplier that gave back a little into the reversal. Neither is a signal; on Thursday the motion-and-control complex simply had no red worth naming.
The actuation chokepoint — the reducers, servos and bearings that are the real bottleneck in humanoid and industrial robotics — moved broadly: FANUC's ADR +7.9%, Yaskawa +3.8%, Moog +7.5%, Allient +9.2%, Regal Rexnord +8.0%, and Harmonic Drive +2.9%. Machine vision rose with it (Cognex +8.3%, Ambarella +7.1%), as did warehouse automation (Symbotic +6.4%), sidewalk-delivery robots (Serve Robotics +10.1%), and the merchant silicon underneath (STMicroelectronics +9.7%, Lattice +10.2%). The thematic humanoid baskets tracked the tape — KraneShares' KOID +4.3%, Roundhill's HUMN +2.3% — while Tesla added +3.5% into its Optimus event.
The calendar turns the theme concrete fast. Tesla's Optimus Gen 3 reveal and low-volume production start is estimated for around August 1 — the vertical's marquee humanoid catalyst; NSK reports on August 3; Cognex and Schaeffler on August 5; Symbotic's fiscal Q3 and Harmonic Drive on August 6; Ultralife on August 7; and USA Rare Earth — the magnet-supply chokepoint under every actuator — on August 10. With MP Materials and Allegro MicroSystems already reported July 30, the next fortnight tests whether Thursday's silicon-led lift extends into the mechanical bottleneck that actually gates robot production.
