A hawkish Fed hold sold the high-beta automation complex, but PTC bucked the tape on its Q3 print — a raised ARR guide and $1.6B buyback the market rewarded even as humanoid small caps bled.

PTC was the desk's lone real gainer, +3.9% to $132.46, moving on the day it reported fiscal Q3 results — lifting full-year constant-currency ARR-growth guidance to about 9.25% from 9% and authorizing $1.625 billion of buybacks. PTC owns the CAD/PLM design-software chokepoint: the digital thread every robotics and automation program is authored and version-controlled in. On a session that re-priced duration hard — the Fed held rates in a divided 9-3 vote and the 10-year jumped seven basis points past 4.67% — profitable, cash-generative software incumbents are precisely what capital rotates toward, and PTC's raise gave it a reason to lead.

At the other end, Knightscope fell 9.2% to $1.38 with no company news — the highest-beta expression of the automation trade and the first thing sold when yields spike. Knightscope maps to the autonomous security-and-patrol robot chokepoint, but at barely a dollar of hardware it carries no earnings cushion, so it trades as pure duration. The structural read is the same one that governed the whole tape: the further a name's payoff sits in the future, the harder a hawkish surprise marks it down.

The humanoid and automation complex bled through. Symbotic −4.7% to $40.34, Serve Robotics −7.0% to $4.37, Regal Rexnord −7.6% to $187.60, and Amprius −7.6% — the solid-state battery choke for mobile robots. USA Rare Earth −7.0% to $13.07 sat where robotics meets materials: the actuator-magnet feedstock chokepoint that gates every high-torque joint. The motion-control names that actually gate humanoid articulation — the Japanese reducer and servo makers — held better on a weak-tape read abroad: Nidec's ADR +1.0% and Fanuc's ADR +0.6% were rare green marks. Tesla slipped 3.0% to $298.32 ahead of its Optimus reveal.

The near calendar is dense with the components that decide the humanoid buildout. Allegro MicroSystems reports fiscal Q1 today (July 30). Tesla's Optimus Gen 3 reveal and low-volume production start is estimated around August 1; Cognex — the machine-vision chokepoint — prints August 5, Symbotic's fiscal Q3 lands August 6, USA Rare Earth reports August 10, and Knightscope itself on August 12. Ambarella and NVIDIA both report August 26, the read on the edge-inference silicon that robots run on. With duration driving the tape, those prints — not one hawkish afternoon — set whether the automation trade re-rates.
