Nvidia led robotics on July 10 as the humanoid-compute layer bid, while the actuation chokepoint was the pressure point — Allegro's sensors slipped and Yaskawa's servos cratered ~14% in Monday's Tokyo earnings rout.

Nvidia (NVDA) rose 4.0% to $210.96, the strongest name in the basket and the clearest read on the humanoid-compute chokepoint — the Jetson-class inference silicon and Isaac stack that serve as the "brain" for physical AI. Morgan Stanley reaffirmed its Overweight and highlighted fresh AI growth drivers, and the demand-side signal from hyperscaler compute spend carried through to the robotics names that ride the same silicon. Precision-motion suppliers followed: Regal Rexnord (RRX) +3.3% to $214.90, Novanta (NOVT) +3.3% to $156.65, and Japan's Harmonic Drive (HSYDF) +2.3%, the strain-wave-reducer specialist, with Cognex (CGNX) +1.6% and Symbotic (SYM) +1.1%.

Allegro MicroSystems (ALGM) fell 4.4% to $54.87, the laggard among liquid US names, giving back after a volatile week. Allegro's magnetic position and current sensors are a genuine motion-control chokepoint — the components that close the loop in every servo-driven joint — so its slip, on no company release, read as positioning ahead of its fiscal Q1 report rather than a demand signal. Micro-cap Knightscope (KSCP) fell 4.9% to $1.73 and Enovix (ENVX) −3.7% rounded out the decliners.

The larger actuation story broke overseas. Yaskawa Electric (6506.T) fell roughly 14% in Monday's Tokyo session after a Q1 earnings miss — quarterly EPS of ¥37.39 against a ¥44.10 estimate, with full-year net income guided down about 38% — the sharpest move in the servo-and-motion-control chokepoint that sits inside most industrial and humanoid arms. Yaskawa's thinly traded US line (YASKY) is an unreliable read on that session, but the home-exchange print is unambiguous: the motor-and-drive layer is where margin pressure is showing up first, even as the compute layer re-rates higher. It is the recurring tension in this vertical — the brains are cheap to hype, the joints are hard to build.

The calendar is heavy with actuation and autonomy tests. Tesla reports Q2 on July 22, with an Optimus Gen 3 reveal and low-volume production start guided for around August 1; Teradyne reports July 28; and the laggard, Allegro, prints its fiscal Q1 on July 30. Japan's motion-control complex follows — Nabtesco H1 on July 31, NSK August 3, Harmonic Drive August 6 — each a direct look at reducer and bearing order books after Yaskawa's warning. The read into month-end: compute demand is intact; the question is whether the actuation supply chain can turn it into shipped, profitable hardware.
