Humanoid and factory-automation names dumped with the AI tape on July 7 — energy-density and actuator suppliers down 8-11% — while Nvidia (+0.7%) was the basket's lone anchor.
Nvidia (NVDA) closed up 0.7% at $196.93, the robot basket's only meaningful green on a day the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.16% and the semiconductor ETF dropped more than 3%. NVDA is the physical-AI compute chokepoint the whole humanoid stack is being built on — Jetson silicon, Isaac and Omniverse — and its relative strength was the exception that defined the session: everything downstream of it in the robotics supply chain fell.
Enovix (ENVX) was the steepest decliner, off 11.3% to $4.99, at the energy-density chokepoint — silicon-anode cells pitched for the power-dense joints and torsos of humanoids. It is a pre-scale, high-beta battery name, exactly the profile sold first in a growth de-risking, and Amprius (AMPX) −10.5% fell beside it on the same node. Neither move was company-specific; both were the market repricing the cost of capital for anything whose payoff is years out.
The automation majors and precision-motion suppliers were broadly down 5-11%. The Japanese actuator and strain-wave-gear chokepoint that every humanoid joint depends on took the brunt: Yaskawa (YASKY) −11.0%, Nabtesco (NCTKY) −9.9%, Fanuc (FANUY) −8.7%, THK (THKLY) −4.6%. Integrators and service robots followed — Symbotic (SYM) −7.1%, Serve Robotics (SERV) −6.2% — and the humanoid bellwether Tesla (TSLA) fell 4.0% to $402.90. This was a beta unwind across the actuator and integration chokepoints, not a supplier-specific break; the physical-AI thesis is intact, but the market just marked down how much it will pay for it today.
The robotics calendar is dense from here. Tesla reports Q2 on July 22, with an Optimus Gen 3 reveal and low-volume production start estimated around August 1 — the single biggest humanoid catalyst on the board. Teradyne reports July 28 and MP Materials July 30, and the Japanese actuator names print in early August, including Harmonic Drive Systems around August 6. Nvidia's own Q2 FY2027 report lands August 26, the read on whether the compute chokepoint's demand still outruns the rest of the stack's caution.
