Japanese motion-control suppliers firmed while US battery and rare-earth small caps unwound — Nidec's ADR +7.7%, Amprius −11.3%.

Nidec's US ADR (NJDCY) rose 7.7% to $4.20, the basket's top move, though on a lightly-traded and volatile line — there was no single confirmed company catalyst, so the move reads as a positioning bounce in the Japanese motion-control complex rather than a discrete event. Nidec sits on the actuators-motors chokepoint, the rare "full-set" supplier of both servo motors and reducers that humanoid makers need in one place. The signal is corroborated by the more liquid actuation names that also firmed: Harmonic Drive (HSYDF +2.0%) on precision gears, Allient (ALNT +2.0%) on motors, and the platforms-integrators pair Symbotic (SYM +2.2%) and Teradyne (TER +1.7%).

Amprius (AMPX) fell 11.3% to $12.52, the worst in the basket, with Enovix (ENVX −6.2%) alongside it — the batteries-power chokepoint sold off in the day's high-beta unwind with no fresh company news. The rare-earth-magnet chokepoint fell too: USA Rare Earth (USAR −6.4%) and MP Materials (MP −4.1%). The structural read maps cleanly onto the supply chain — actuation, which Japan dominates and largely earns money on, held; the speculative energy-density and magnet links, which trade on promise, did not.

The rest of the tape sorted the same way. Tesla (−1.6%) and the US semiconductor-content names — Qualcomm (−3.3%), Ambarella (−3.8%) — were soft in the broad AI profit-taking that pulled the Nasdaq lower, while the bearings-and-gears quality cluster (Timken, RBC Bearings, Regal Rexnord) held flat-to-green. Serve Robotics (SERV −4.5%) gave back on the delivery-platform side. It was a risk-off session that rewarded the profitable, hard-to-replicate motion-control suppliers over the pre-profit content and energy names.

Tesla's Q2 (July 22) anchors the calendar — the Optimus update remains the single largest read on humanoid demand and, by extension, on every actuation and magnet chokepoint downstream of it. Teradyne (July 28), TE Connectivity (July 29, sales guided to roughly $5B), Allegro MicroSystems (July 30) and MP Materials' Q2 (July 30) follow, reading the platforms, connectivity, sensing and magnet straits in turn.
